Despacito is a 2017 song released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top streamed track in the world within six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music has not only brought interest back to the genre, but also to Latin music in general. In Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish languages, while the year 2016 saw four. At the peak of Despacito's chart-topping success in 2017 19 songs mostly in Spanish reached into the Top 100. The number grew to 41 by 2020. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages to Despacito (2017) famous musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton musicians, such as Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma on Medellin (2019). Certain reggaeton performers have criticized the shift to mainstream music in the year 2020. However, a brand new group, Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the development and growth of reggaeton. He used elements from other genres and electronic music.
